Myers-Briggs Personality Type Consultations
Our principal, Dr. Thomas Piccin, is a cognitive psychologist and a Certified MBTI Practitioner. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a widely-respected personality assessment tool that helps identify and explain how healthy individuals can differ from each other in the ways they think, learn, process information, communicate, and make decisions. Dr. Piccin uses the MBTI to help clients enhance their understanding of themselves and others, foster deeper and healthier relationships in all areas of their lives, and gain insight into their own motivations, natural strengths, and potential blind spots.

Since its original publication in 1962, the MBTI has become the most widely used personality assessment in the world, and it continues to be used by most Fortune 100 companies today.

For Teams
We work with teams to help improve communication, identify and resolve conflicts, enhance decision making, and create a healthier team dynamic. When team members understand their own personality types and those of their teammates, they are less likely to be critical or judgmental of behaviors or choices they see in others that differ from their own. Rather, they understand that healthy people can differ in the way they see the world, process information, make decisions, and communicate. And, if embraced, these differences can add tremendous value to a team.

For Individuals
When you understand your personality type, you can choose to live your life in a way that best suits your unique cognitive preferences. Choosing a career, learning new skills, making decisions, solving problems, managing change, and dealing with stress can all be enhanced when you have insight into the unique way that your brain prefers to take in and process information. Your relationships will be healthier and more satisfying, because you will learn to identify and appreciate the ways that others differ from you, and recognize the unique strengths those differences bring to each relationship.

Beyond the Four Letters
You might already know your 4-letter personality type code. But did you know that the unique aspects of your personality go far beyond these four letters? The four personality preferences identified by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) are not independent of each other. Through type dynamics, each of these four preference codes interacts with the others to create a unique personality expression. For example, you and your partner may both have a preference for extraversion. But differences between the two of you in the other three preference codes will mean that the way you experience and express extraversion will be different from the way your partner does. If these differences are not understood, this could lead to frustration and friction in the relationship.
We all utilize all 16 personality types at various times
Outside the Box
Contrary to some misconceptions about the MBTI, the intent of the assessment is not to label people or put them in a “box.” The MBTI model describes 16 different personality types that reflect the different ways that people prefer to use their cognitive processes. Each of us has a preference for one of these 16 types, but we all utilize all of these types at various times, depending on the circumstances and the requirements of the moment. For example, we all extravert sometimes and we all introvert sometimes. The purpose of the MBTI is to help you identify what processes are most natural and comfortable for you. With that knowledge, you can make choices about how you want to live most of the time, always knowing that you can make different choices occasionally as the situation requires.
The Next Step
Okay, suppose you know your 4-letter preference type code, and you understand how these four preferences interact with each other. What’s next? The MBTI Step II takes you to the next level by exploring multiple facets within each of the four preferences. These facets reflect how you might express your preferences in a uniquely different way from someone else with the same preferences. For example, two people may both have a general preference for introversion, but one may have a tendency to introduce herself to others at a party while the other tends to be more reserved. This means that even people with the same 4-letter type code will behave and respond differently in certain situations. The more you know about how people can differ, the better you will be able to work with others, teach them, communicate with them, and just get along with them.
"A knowledge of type lessens friction, eases strain, and reveals the value of differences. No one has to be good at everything."
